Wind power in Finland

Finnish wind turbines and wind power projects

At the end of 2017 Finland's wind power capacity was 2044 MW as 153 new turbines and combined capacity of 516 MW was build during the year. With this capacity 4,8 TWh was produced which covered 5,6 % of the energy consumption in Finland. All in all we had total of 700 wind turbines in Finland at the end of 2017.

At the end of 2016 Finland's wind power capacity was 1533 MW as 182 new turbines and combined capacity of 570 MW was build during the year. With this capacity 3,1 TWh was produced which covered 3,6 % of the energy consumption in Finland. All in all we had total of 552 wind turbines in Finland at the end of 2016.

During 2015 were build 124 new wind turbine generators in Finland, with a combined capacity of 379 megawatts. This increases Finnish wind power capacity to 1005 megawatts with 387 generators. With this capacity during 2015 was produced 2,3 TWh, which covered 2,8 percent of the energy consumption in Finland.

At the end of 2014, there were 260 wind turbine generators, with a combined capacity of 627 megawatts. At the end of 2013, there were 211 wind turbine generators, with a combined capacity of 448 megawatts. At the end of 2012, there were 163 wind turbine generators in Finland, with a combined capacity of 288 megawatts.

Association updates wind power project list annually. At the beginning of April 2018, nearly 15 500 megawatts (MW) of wind power projects had been announced in Finland.

Planned offshore projects accounted for 2000 MW.
